Clear ceramic braces are a practical alternative to traditional braces, giving you the same smile-enhancing results without the noticeable metal look.
Like traditional braces, ceramic braces have two key parts. First, a clear or tooth-colored bracket is bonded to each tooth. Then we thread a tooth-colored wire through the brackets. The brackets can be made from a range of ceramic and composite materials, but you’ll usually hear us call them “ceramic”. Please note: because these materials are more brittle and prone to breakage than stainless steel, we use a lighter force during treatment, which can make it take a little longer.
Caring for ceramic braces is the same as caring for traditional braces:
- Wear your elastics at all times and change them daily to keep a steady force on your teeth.
- Avoid hard, sticky, chewy, or crunchy foods during treatment.
- Soreness is normal for a few days after getting new braces or having them adjusted. Warm salt water and over-the-counter pain relievers can help.
- Brush and floss your braces and wires after every meal.
- Wear a mouthguard during sports.
- If you feel a sharp pain or develop a sore on the soft tissue of your mouth, call us so we can fix it right away.
