About Adults and Braces
Braces aren’t only for kids anymore. In fact, one in five orthodontic patients is over 21. Thanks to more discreet options like clear braces and aligners, adults feel comfortable out in public through every stage of treatment.
Special Considerations for Adults
Adults can achieve the same beautiful, straight smile that kids and teens do, though treatment often takes a little longer. There are a few reasons. A fully formed adult jawbone is somewhat less receptive to movement, and gum disease, which mainly affects adults, can slow progress.
Before Treatment
Before we begin, we’ll check for underlying alignment issues and any existing dental problems. We recommend taking care of concerns like tooth decay and gum disease first.
Types of Braces for Adults
While traditional metal braces are an option, most of our adult patients prefer something more discreet and convenient. Choices include clear or tooth-colored ceramic braces, Invisalign® clear aligners, and lingual braces, which sit behind your teeth and stay hidden when you smile.
We welcome patients of every age. Give us a call to learn how we can transform your smile!
