Elastics are rubber bands that attach to your braces. They’re designed to apply exactly the right amount of pressure to move your teeth. For that force to stay steady, you need to wear them all the time and change them every day. Please note: if you don’t wear your elastics as prescribed, your treatment will take longer.
Here are a few tips for taking care of your elastics:
- It’s up to you to change the elastics every day. This really matters, because the rubber loses its stretch quickly and stops applying enough force.
- You can take your elastics out to brush after meals, then pop them right back on.
- Keep extra elastics with you wherever you go, so you can replace one the moment it breaks.
- When your supply runs low, give us a call so you don’t have a gap in your treatment.
- If your elastics break often, let us know, since we may need to adjust your braces.
